Midtown Manhattan
This neighborhood is the heart of Manhattan, and also the most touristy part of the city.
In Midtown Manhattan you can find some of New York City’s most popular attractions – Time Squares, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the 5th Avenue, and much more!
I highly recommend staying in this area because it is the heart of the city, centrally located, and is so close to many attractions.
This area is more expensive, but here are the most affordable hotels in the area:
1.Β Row NYC at Times Square
2.Β Club Quarters Hotel Midtown – Times Square
Β
3.Β Candlewood Suites NYC -Times Square
4.Β Hotel Shocard New York
5. Doxie Hotel
Chelsea
This neighborhood is less touristy but is one of Manhattan’s trendiest areas.Β
In the Chelsea area, you can find many beautiful art galleries, the High-Line park which is beautiful as well. The famous Chelsea Market is also located in the neighborhood.
Chelsea is a pretty, trendy neighborhood that can give you an insight into living like a local while exploring Manhattan.
Chelsea’s affordable hotels:

Lower East Side
This is another trendy neighborhood in the city. It is filled with history as well – in the 19th century, most of the immigrants that moved to New York City settled in this neighborhood. Most immigrants were Europeans, but in the late 20th century, Asian immigrants came to this area.Β
The Lower East Side became the best area to dine and enjoy Manhattan’s nightlife.
BUT, if you don’t like nosy areas, and you like peace and quiet at night, you should know this area can be noisy at night because it is a hot nightlife area.
ALSO, there aren’t many subway stations, so it can get a bit difficult to get around the city from this location. So keep that in mind as well.
Affordable hotels in the Lower East Side:
1.Β The Allen HotelΒ Β
2.Β Hotel Mimosa
3.Β Fairfield Inn & Suites
4. Madison LES Hotel
5.Β citizenM New York Bowery
Brooklyn
If this isn’t your first time in New York City, and you want to spice things up a bit – I highly recommend considering staying in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn became a part of New York’s trendy neighborhoods. In Brooklyn, you can find many delicious restaurants, nice bars, beautiful street art, and also famous attractions like the Brooklyn Bridge, the Dumbo, Brooklyn’s aquarium, and much more.
What is good about staying in Brooklyn that it is much cheaper than staying in Manhattan. But with that being said, you need to know that you will need to use much more public transportation and it’ll take more time to get from Brooklyn to other attractions in Manhattan.
Affordable hotels in Brooklyn:
1. The Tillary Hotel Brooklyn
2.Β Hotel Indigo β Downtown Brooklyn/NY
3.Β Holiday Inn Brooklyn Downtown
4.Β Pointe Plaza Hotel
5.Β Pod Brooklyn
Greenwich Village
Most people call this area “The Village”. In this neighborhood, you will find brownstone buildings and Washington Square Park.
This area has some of the best restaurants in the city, and also some of the best nightlife in Manhattan.
If you are visiting the city on Halloween, you should totally check out the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade.Β
Affordable hotels in Greenwich Village:
1.Β Walker Hotel Greenwich Village
2.Β Moxy NYC East Village
3.Β The Marlton Hotel
4.Β The Jane Hotel
Upper West Side
This area is less touristy and much cheaper than other areas in New York City.Β
In this neighborhood, there aren’t many sightseeing places and attractions, and staying here is feeling a local’s life on your trip.
From this neighborhood, you can walk to Central Park, to the Museum of Natural History, and also to Riverside Park.
If you do decide to stay here, you should know that it is a bit far from most sightseeing places, and you will need to take the bus, subway or taxi to get anywhere else in the city.
Affordable hotels in the Upper West Side:
1.Β Excelsior Hotel
2.Β The Lucerne HotelΒ
3.Β Hotel Belleclaire
4. Empire Hotel
Upper East Side
On the other side of Central Park, you’ll find the Upper East Side neighborhood. In this area, you can find the amazing Metropolitan Museum of Art, Madison Avenue, and the Guggenheim Museum.
This neighborhood is perfect to stay at if you want to stay in an upscale neighborhood in Manhattan. Also, there are many luxury shopping places here.
But, you should know that this area is expensive and you’ll have longer rides on the subway to get to most tourist attractions in the city.
Affordable hotels in the Upper East Side:
1.Β The Bentley Hotel
2.Β Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side
3.Β Parker New York Hotel
4.Β Park Lane HotelΒ
