What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is another way of passive income that you can make online! it is one of the most popular ways people make money online.

An online retailer and a website owner/blogger/almost anyone online makes an arrangement where the online retailer pays a commission for driving traffic and sales to them.

How will the company track your sales? When someone clicks your affiliate link, a “cookie” is stored in their browser, which means that if someone makes a purchase through your links before the cookie expires, you would receive a commission for that sale.

Honestly, the easiest way to succeed with affiliate marketing is through owning a blog or a website. But with that being said, you can also share your affiliate links on social media or by email (if the company approves it).

If you didn’t know, Amazon have a pretty profitable affiliate program.

You can link your favorite products that are sold on Amazon in your blog, and every time someone clicks through your links and buys something from Amazon you will make a commission!

Amazon affiliate program is great for all bloggers. Amazon sells thousands of products from all catagories, so any blogger from all niches can find something from Amazon to promote on their blog!

What I love the most about Amazon’s affiliate program is that if someone clicks through your link, you will earn a commission for anything he buys!

This means that if you promoted a ring, and someone clicked the link, and within the next 24 hours decided to buy an Ipad, you earned a commission for the Ipad!

How to join the Amazon affiliate program?

If you have a blog that contains between 10-15 blog posts, you can apply for free for the Amazon affiliate program.

I also recommend joining the Amazon affiliate program once you have some readers and engagment on your blog. 

Once your application is approved, you’ll be able to access the SiteStripe, which is a toolbar that appears on the top of every page of Amazon, who allows you to quickly copy and paste your affiliate link for any product on Amazon.

Hi Maya, thanks so much for having me. My name is Dale and I am a blogger, online entrepreneur, and the creator of www.bloggingherway.com.

How did you start bloggingherway.com?

I started Blogging Her Way because I wanted to create a place where I could share everything I was learning about blogging and provide helpful resources for anyone else interested in starting a blog. 

I love the “behind the scenes†aspect of blogging and talking about topics that a lot of bloggers ignore, like how to actually make money blogging.

What did you do before you became a blogger?

Before I started blogging, I was just a regular college student. 

I was sick of working internships and part time jobs that I didn’t enjoy, so I decided to find a way to start my own business instead. 

I tried out multiple ideas (including being a web designer) before I finally settled on blogging!

You’ve created your Amazon Affiliate Affluence ebook. Tell us more about it.

Amazon Affiliate Affluence is an ebook I wrote to share my strategies for making money with Amazon Associates. 

In case you aren’t familiar, Amazon Associates is Amazon’s affiliate program that allows bloggers to earn commission from sales they drive to Amazon. 

The way it works is as a blogger, you can link to products on Amazon’s website and earn a commission any time someone makes a purchase through one of your links. 

The commission ranges from 1-10% depending on the product, but considering how many people shop on Amazon and the fact that you earn commission on everything in someone’s cart when they check out, your potential for earning is quite high.

How long did it take you to “crack” Amazon and make real money from it?

It took me close to a year! For the longest time, I was only making a few dollars a month from Amazon. 

Then I decided to start another blog as an experiment basically to see if I could figure out how to generate consistent income from Amazon. 

I ended up making sales within just one month on that blog, and by the following month I was earning hundreds of dollars. 

I was able to replicate that success on my blogs in other niches as well, which is the point when I knew I’d really figured out the Amazon affiliate program.

If you are okay with answering, how much do you currently earn from Amazon?

Across all my blogs, I typically earn between $500-$1,000+ a month from Amazon. 

My income is usually much higher around the holidays because that’s when online shopping is at its peak and I currently have a lot of holiday content that does very well.

What is your number one tip for bloggers who are trying to make a nice income from the Amazon affiliate program?

Write content that provides value to your readers! Some of my most successful blog posts solve a particular problem for my reader. 

For example, what to pack for a trip to New York in the winter, or what to bring to your college dorm freshman year. 

And as you can imagine, each item I recommend is something that’s available on Amazon using my affiliate link. 

So I’m genuinely helping my readers with common questions they have, while earning money at the same time based on my recommendations.
