Malabar Tea Plantation is a 2,022-hectare green tea plantation that resembles a magnificent green carpet, only that this ‘carpet’ is natural and does not need to be dry cleaned! 

Jokes aside, the temperature can drop to 16°C, so hold on to your jackets! 

An activity you must not miss out on at Malabar Tea Plantation would be the eye-opening visit to the tea factory. You will learn more about tea processing and watch the employees at work. 

A historical spot you might want to visit is the tomb of Karel Albert Rudolf Bosscha, the well-known manager of the Malabar Tea Plantation. He was the role model of the locals due to his likable personality.

Thus, his tomb remains well-maintained until today and is one of the most Instagrammable places in Bandung.

The usual floating markets are along the river, but Floating Market Lembang’s boats are docked along an artificial lake.

The floating market sells all kinds of food, handicrafts, and souvenirs. You can dine at at designated spots next to the boats. 

However, the sellers only accept tokens unique to the market as a form of payment instead of cash. 

Hence, don’t forget to buy your tokens at the counter, which come in 3 denominations – 5,000, 10,000, and 20,000. 

Another thing to note is you can’t exchange the tokens  for money. Hence, it is best to spend all your tokens at the market.

This place is super kid-friendly as well! There are miniature professions for kids to dress up, such as chefs, firefighters, police, and doctors. It is a great way to hang out with your kids and put a smile on their faces. 

You also won’t want to miss out on their cooking classes for kids, which helps enhance their creativity and confidence.

15. Farmhouse Lembang

Although this place is called Farmhouse Lembang, there’s no real “farm” here. Nevertheless, this is truly an attractive Instagrammable place in Bandung with many buildings of European influence. 

After paying for the entrance ticket, you can use it to exchange for a cup of fresh milk at the giant milk bottle-shaped building. You’re in for a sweet treat at the start!

There is a mini zoo area that would be perfect for you to bring your kids along. You can feed the sheep and rabbits there, what a treat!

One of the hottest photo spots you shouldn’t miss is definitely the stunning exhibit which bears a resemblance to Lord of the Rings’ Hobbiton Village. 

Even the shopkeepers are dressed in European-influenced clothes. You can rent the traditional costumes and stroll around Farmhouse Lembang for a unique experience.

Rumah Guguk is a paradise for all of you dog lovers! You will have so much fun playing with these fluffy adorable balls of fur!

There are corgis, golden retrievers, Siberian huskies, pugs, and more to enjoy your day with! There are other animals besides dogs here, such as cats, chameleons, goats, and ducks. 

The place is clean and well-maintained, so you don’t have to worry about the hygiene of Rumah Guguk. 

However, you have to buy dog food at Rumah Guguk first to take photos with the dogs.

There are two areas – Rumah Guguk and Taman Guguk. One area is priced at IDR 50,000 (USD 5.21), but if you visit both, you’ll get a deal to pay IDR 80,000 (USD 3.26).

Stone Garden Citatah is a 2-hectare land covered with limestone. As this naturally aesthetic place has been unmarred by development, it is one of the best natural Instagrammable places in Bandung.

Here on Stone Garden Citatah, there are plenty of natural photo spots available for you to snap for Instagram, so you won’t want to miss out on this place on your itinerary!

As the roads here aren’t well maintained, you might want to hire a private car to drive you up the hill for your peace of mind. 

This place also may not be suitable for children as it may be dangerous for them to be around the uneven rocks on the hill. 

Don’t forget to bring your mosquito repellent and sunscreen. Wear your best hiking shoes, as you will be doing plenty of walking here!

18. Bukit Moko

Bukit Moko’s air is fresh and cool as the hill is at 1,500 meters above sea level. There is no pollution up here too. Hence, the view from Bukit Moko at night is clear, allowing you to admire the Bandung city lights. 

Lots of people also enjoy coming to Bukit Moko for stargazing. You will have to pay an additional fee to get to the best part of the place for stargazing.

You can also consider going camping at Bukit Moko, for which you have to pay a fee. There is a canteen on the hill if you wish to buy food and drinks. 

The view during the day is spectacular too, especially during sunrise and sunset. Besides, you can also admire the beautiful pine trees here, which make for an amazing natural backdrop for your photos.

As you’ll be doing plenty of walking, do wear a good pair of hiking shoes. Don’t leave that jacket behind or you’ll be freezing on the hill!

21. Tangkuban Perahu 

Yes, you read that right! An actual active volcano that looks like an overturned boat!

The three craters – Domas Crater, Ratu Crater, and Upas Crater form the Tangkuban Perahu. Out of the three, Domas Crater is the only one you can hike to get close to it, as the other two remain active craters. 

It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Bandung. It’s no surprise either as there are so many activities here. 

If you’re not up for hiking, you can opt to stroll around the area to admire and snap the scenic view of Ratu Crater. You can park at the upper parking lot and almost immediately see the Ratu Crater!

You could hike to the Domas Crater, where you can enjoy a soothing foot massage in the mud or dip your feet in the hot springs. You can even buy eggs cooked on the hot surface!

Upas Crater is smaller and less accessible compared to the other two. If you’re up for it, there is a hiking trail that connects Upas Crater and Domas Crater.

From my experience, while you’re at Tangkuban Perahu, many locals will keep following you, attempting to sell their wares at high prices. 

Some locals may even offer their services as a guide to Domas Crater. However, as you reach Domas Crater, they might tell you they can’t accept tips and insist you purchase wares from them instead. 

In my opinion, this is a breathtaking place to visit if it’s your first time in Bandung. Just stand your ground and be firm to say no to the pushy sellers.

1. Kawah Putih Tour  – Visit Kawah Putih for a stunning view of the mysterious crater lake, followed by a lunch at a ship-shaped restaurant. 

From there, you will continue on your journey to visit a tea plantation before heading on to Rancaupas Deer Conservation Center to pet adorable deer. You’ll end off the tour by plucking some tasty strawberries!

2. Volcano, Hot Springs, Mud Bathing, and Tea Plantation! – Visit one of the most popular tourist spots in Bandung – Tangkuban Perahu! 

Later, you get to visit Rengganis Crater and soak your whole body in a hot spring, not to mention mud bathing. You’ll have lunch at Patenggang Lake before ending the tour at Rancabali Tea Plantation!

1. Gamcheon Cultural Village 

Gamcheon Cultural Village, also commonly known as Busan Cultural Village is famously known as the Santorini of Korea with its slopes of colorful houses. 

Aside from just heading to a vantage point to capture the true beauty of the colorful houses, dedicate some time toward exploring the murals within the village too. 

Tip: Look for the Little Prince statue and head a little further down from there to get a good vantage shot of Gamcheon’s colorful houses.

2. Busan Tower

Standing at 120 meters tall in Yongdusan Park, Busan Diamond Tower or Busan Tower, stands out prominently against Busan’s cityscape.

Go up the tower to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole city, and also learn about its history through exhibitions within the space. 

Tip: Go early for an uninterrupted photo for the ‘gram, but also remember to book your tickets ahead for a fuss-free entry!

3. BIFF Square, Busan 

BIFF Square is Busan’s answer to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. 

The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) first took place there in 1996 and the space has been an iconic location since. 

The surrounding area is dotted with movie theaters and tourist amenities, catering to the growing crowds that are interested in Busan and Korea’s filmmaking culture. 

Tip: If you want to have street food along BIFF Street, remember to bring cash. And go at night for the best street food experience!

4. Lotte World Busan – Instagrammable Places In Busan

Lotte World Adventure Busan is Busan’s first theme park and opened relatively recently. You might find the term Lotte World familiar – there’s another in Seoul! 

But the one in Busan is one-fifth bigger than its Seoul counterpart so if you’re a huge fan of theme parks and taking photos in them, then you must head to Lotte World Busan!

Tip: Book tickets ahead with Klook to save queuing time!

5. Spaland Busan

I know what you’re thinking – how can a Busan spa be among instagrammable places in Busan? 

But when you finally head to Spaland Busan, which can be found within the world’s biggest department store, Shinsegae Centum City, you’ll see why!

The spa is huge, spanning two floors. Its facilities are extremely luxurious and also picture-worthy. 

Do take note that not every spot allows photos or cameras so please be mindful of that! 

Tip: While most spas (jjimjilbang in Korean) allow you to stay for long periods, a standard entry here is only for four hours. So plan your time there wisely!

6. Trickeye Busan Museum 

As with many of the Trickeye Museums around the world, this museum comprises mind-bending illusions that you can spend hours trying to capture and have fun with. 

Trickeye Busan has a total of 80 illusions so this is a perfect rainy day or indoor activity. 

Tip: Get bundled tickets ahead of time together with Busan’s Museum of Movies and learn about Busan’s rich cinematic history too!

7. Haeundae Blue Line Park, Busan 

Haeundae Blue Line Park is constructed out of an old railway facility and consists of sky capsules traveling along a 4.8-kilometer-long railway along the Busan coast. 

Its colorful mini capsules make for cute photos, making it one of the most instagrammable places in Busan. 

Tip: You don’t need to ride the extremely slow-moving car to get a good shot – you can get one from down below.

If you absolutely must take the capsule, take it from the Cheongsapo end instead of the Mipo end to avoid crowds and congestion.

8. Jagalchi Fish Market

No visit to Busan is complete without a trip to Jagalchi Fish Market. 

A wet, grimy fish market might be the last thing on your mind when thinking of places to visit in Busan, South Korea.

But with Jalgalchi being such a vibrant, bustling space in the heart of busy Nampo-dong, visiting this market is one of the most unique things to do in Busan. 

Sunsets and sunrises at the market against the backdrop of the nearby Gamcheon Village are extremely picturesque (the proof is in the photo below!). 

Tip: Go with an empty stomach so you can dine on a raw fish meal (known as ‘hoe’ in Korean) after exploring the market. 

Choose a fish at Level 1 of the market, have them slice it up for you (yes, it’s that fresh!), and then consume it on the second floor comfortably at a partner restaurant.

9. Diamond Bridge

Diamond Bridge or Gwangandaegyo in Korean, was so-named in recent years to be foreigner-friendly, but also to reflect its dazzling nature.

Tip: The best view of the bridge is from Gwangalli Beach, frequently visited for its soft powdery sand.

Find a spot to have a drink or a meal towards sunset and watch Diamond Bridge light up when the sun goes down.

10. Huin-yeoul Coastal Tunnel 

A quick bus ride from Nampo station, Huin-yeoul Coastal Tunnel is the highlight of the Huin-yeoul Culture Village. 

Sure, the village is extremely picturesque in itself and its murals and architecture can easily rival Gamcheon Cultural Village’s colorful houses. 

But its crowning glory is the picture-perfect moment when you get to the end of the coastal tunnel. 

Tip: The end of the tunnel can get crowded because everyone wants that prized shot, so try to come early or later in the day to avoid peak periods. 

As the tunnel is dark, you may also want to bring your own flash so you can capture your own outfit and facial details. Or just opt for a silhouette photo, that works too!

11. Cafe Rooftop

Located in Cheongpo, Cafe Rooftop is arguably one of the most instagrammable places in Busan with its panoramic sea views and idyllic vibes. 

Tip: Don’t go to the cafe with the expectation that there would be food. It’s more of a photo spot with coffee available. 

If it gets cold and a bit too breezy, don’t be afraid to ask the cafe for a blanket!

12. Yeongdodaegyo Bridge

If you’ve had enough of bridges in this article, hear me out, this one’s different I promise! 

Connecting the busy Nampo-dong district and Yeongdo Island, the Yeongdodaegyo Bridge was the first of its kind to connect the Busan mainland to a neighboring island. 

What makes this picture worthy, is that when the bridge lifts to allow large ships to pass through, you can see its unique seagull murals on the gravel flooring. 

Tip: There isn’t a specific time that the bridge lifts, but it could happen from two to seven times a day depending on the number of ships that pass!

13. Hwangnyeongsan

If you’re looking to do some hiking in Busan but don’t quite want the hassle of bringing hiking gear, then Hwangyeongsan is perfect for a relaxing trek.

Readily accessible from downtown Busan (near Geumnyeonsan station on line 2), even the most novice of hikers can make it to the top of this 427-meter peak.

Once on top, you’ll get an unparalleled view of Busan’s night lights, making this one of the top things to do in Busan at night. 

Tip: If you’re concerned about late-night transport, there are many Busan at-night tours that stop by Hwangyeongsan and Diamond Bridge.

14. Songdo Cloud Walk – Instagrammable Places In Busan

You’ve heard of walking on sunshine, how about trying to walk on clouds instead?

At Songdo Cloud Walk, you’ll experience the feeling of walking on the ocean floor with clear glass panels that line the skywalk. 

Coupled with the scenic seaside views and the passing cable cars, all these combined make for a very ‘gram-worthy shot. 

Tip: The bridge gets extremely windy so make sure you’re holding onto your caps, sunglasses, or anything that could fly away!

Else you might find yourself chasing after things rather than taking photographs!

15. Oryukdo Skywalk

Similar to the Songdo Cloud Walk, the Oryukdo Skywalk gives you the feeling of walking above the sea, with its extended platform and transparent flooring.

Don’t be too worried though – its glass floor is reinforced with four layers of 12mm glass and coated with a bulletproof film. 

Tip: Due to its location, the area receives strong winds and will close when the weather gets bad. So check ahead on the weather before you go!

16. Hocheon Village

K-drama fans, if you’ve watched ‘Fight For My Way’ starring Park Seo Jun then you absolutely cannot miss this spot! 

This rooftop in Hocheon Village was where many iconic scenes in the drama were filmed, and there’s even a standee in place to show where the actors once stood.

Tip: Go just right before sunset so you can see the landscape change as the sun goes down, and the lights from the buildings come on.

17. Haeundae Beach

If you only have time for one beach in Busan, then you must visit the best beach in Busan, and arguably the most famous – Haeundae Beach. 

The 1.5-kilometer-long beach is the perfect spot for summer activities like swimming because of its shallow bays. 

Tip: If you visit Busan in winter or any other season outside summer, there is unfortunately no swimming on the beach allowed. 

So plan properly if you’d like a dip in this iconic spot.

18. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple

If you’ve been traveling Korea for a while by now you probably have seen your fair share of temples. But Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is truly unlike any other.

It carries the full, intricate details of a typical Korean temple but is uniquely located atop some rough cliffs, just right next to the shore. 

Tip: Wear walking shoes and carve out some time to go on a coastal walk adjacent to the temple for a good dose of sun and sea.

19. Ahopsan Forest – Instagrammable Places In Busan

As a fan of Netflix’s The King: Eternal Monarch starring the well-loved Lee Min-Ho and Kim Go-Eun, I was pleasantly surprised to find this drama location easily accessible. 

Ahopsan Forest is a 400-year-old bamboo forest that only opened to the public recently in 2016, and is extremely well-maintained. 

Fans of the drama might recognize this forest as the portal used by the characters in the drama. 

Drama aside, its towering trees are a magnificent sight to behold on their own. 

Tip: Make sure you have comfortable walking shoes as there is quite a bit of walking to be done through the forest!

20. The Bay 101 

Located by the waterfront near Haeundae, this instagrammable spot is well-hidden within a yacht club. 

Despite how exclusive it sounds, The Bay 101 is easily accessible to everyone and is a great place to visit at night with its alfresco dining places and views of the city lights. 

Tip: To get the prized Instagram shot of the city lights’ reflection, splash some water on the floor and position your camera behind the puddle. Or just use a reflective surface!

21. Igidae Coastal Walk

Busan is a coastal city, and if you haven’t gotten sick of coastal walks and seaside views yet then you must certainly head to Igidae Coastal Walk.

The 4.7-kilometer coastal walk is a popular Busan hiking spot and offers great views along a relatively undemanding hike of about one hour. 

Tip: Bring some water and be prepared to walk a little for some crazy views! 

If you have bad knees, this hike may not be the most suitable for you as there are quite a number of stairs.

22. Taejongdae Resort Park

Taejongdae Resort Park is a pedestrian-only location facing the South Sea, making it extremely peaceful and pristine, with no traffic congestion or pollution. 

You can choose to hike around the hike on its 4-kilometer hiking trail or take a cute yellow train that circles the park and stops at other scenic stops. 

Tip: If you’re short on time, take the train to the top and walk around the top! It doesn’t cost very much and saves you lots of time while giving you the same views.

23. Oedo Island 

Oedo Island is a private island whose main attraction is Oedo-Botania, a massive private garden with bright blooms that makes for a very pretty backdrop. 

If you find the island familiar, the Netflix Korean variety show New World, starring famous Korean celebrities Lee Seung-Gi and Kim Hee Chul, was filmed there. 

Tip: The island doesn’t have any accommodation or transportation options, so taking a  Busan day tour from the mainland is your best bet.

Which K-Dramas Were Filmed In Busan?

There have been many K-dramas filmed in Busan in the past few years, with the most popular one being The King: Eternal Monarch starring Lee Min Ho. 

Another Korean drama Fight For My Way was also filmed in Busan.

Aside from K-dramas, the movies Train to Busan, Peninsula, Ode To My Father and the variety programs Running Man and New World have also featured Busan locations. 

If you’re a huge Running Man fan, you should check out the Running Man Experience Center, which also shares the same space as Poopoo Land. 

Where To Stay In Busan

The best place to stay in Busan is Haeundae, which is right next to Haeundae Beach and is well-known for its chill vibes. 

You can opt for a Busan Airbnb, but why do so when there are so many luxurious hotel options in Busan that don’t cost a bomb?

Signiel Busan is one of the best hotels to stay in the Haeundae area with an infinity pool overlooking Haeundae Beach. 

Other popular places to stay in Busan include Seomyeon, a bustling downtown area with many food and drink options.

Go for Lotte Hotel Busan, which is not only luxurious but has direct access to the Seomyeon subway station. 

If you’re in your 20s and want to be among the younger crowd, Nampo-dong, which is located near several Busan universities is also a good spot to stay in. 

Nampo Hound Hotel Premier has rooms with unobstructed views of the Busan cityscape – ideal if you’re the type that loves those bright city lights. 

Nampo-dong is also near Busan train station, which makes it a very accessible spot if you’re planning to take the train to a nearby town or back to Seoul.

How To Get From Seoul To Busan?

Most people opt to take KTX (Korea Train Express) to get from Seoul to Busan.

The KTX, as its name suggests, is extremely fast and can take you from Seoul to Busan in less than 3 hours, with departures every 30 to 60 minutes.

As a seaside location, the season that is best to visit Busan is definitely Summer. 

However, if you’re not a fan of the scorching heat, Spring and Fall is probably the best season to visit Busan. 

You can even time your trip with the blooming of the cherry blossoms. 

Jinhae, a city close to Busan, is well-known for its lovely blooms. There are tours from Busan to Jinhae for this yearly occurrence. 

Is Busan Foreigner Friendly?

Busan is very foreigner-friendly. Some would even say it’s even more so than the bustling Seoul where people may tend to be a bit more curt and in a hurry.

Coming all the way from Singapore to Busan, I was a little worried about whether I’d be understood since Busan was a little less cosmopolitan than Seoul. 

However I was proven wrong – In my experiences in Busan, I found the locals to be very helpful even though I didn’t speak Korean too fluently at that time. 

Which Is Better: Busan Or Jeju?

If you’re deciding between Busan or Jeju, both are quite different in terms of what they have to offer. 

Busan is well-known for its beaches and is best to visit during the hotter months. 

Jeju is great all year round and is recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site for housing Korea’s highest peak Hallasan. 

As someone who has been to both Busan and Jeju, I personally prefer Busan to Jeju Island for its easy accessibility and diverse range of attractions.

However, if I were looking for an idyllic island getaway, I’d opt for Jeju for its many seaside attractions and accommodations. 

If you have time, why not visit both? A plane ride from Jeju to Busan takes less than an hour! 

Is Seoul Or Busan Better?

Seoul is better than Busan in that it offers a very vibrant, lively cosmopolitan experience. It is a city that never sleeps and you’ll never run out of things to do in Seoul.

Some may prefer Busan for its chill vibes, but for me, Seoul wins hands down. 

How Long Is The Ferry From Fukuoka To Busan?

The ferry from Fukuoka to Busan takes approximately 4 hours and 50 minutes and travels from Hakata Port International Terminal to Busan Port International Terminal.

Whether you’re going from Fukuoka to Busan or Busan to Fukuoka, if you tend to get seasick, there are also non-stop flights that take about an hour between both cities.

1. Tangadan Falls

The first of many instagrammable places in La Union is Tangadan Falls. 

Tangadan Falls are amongst the most popular and best falls in La Union province. The two-tier waterfall gives you twice the opportunities to take Instagram-worthy pictures and is one of the best places to go cliff jumping! 

If you get hungry, fret not, for they have plenty of snacks sold near the falls. 

Note: Try to visit on a weekday rather than the weekend because it can get crowded. If you go around noon, make sure you bring sunblock because that is when the sun is highest in the sky and beaming right down on you.

For beginners, this is one of the best spots to learn how to surf. They offer inexpensive surfing lessons and they have plenty of options for food right on the beach once you’re wiped out from the waves.  

Urbiztondo Beach is also close to other popular tourist spots in La Union, and they have a vibrant nightlife!

A popular coffee shop in La Union province is El Union Coffee. This cafe is so delicious that its famous beans are constantly sold out online. 

El Union Coffee is the perfect place to take a break from the waves and enjoy a refreshing drink. Some of the most popular foods at this surf shack are grilled cheese, horchata, and s’mores. 

The surf shack vibes make for the cutest aesthetic and is pretty close to other popular Elyu tourist spots such as the Flotsam and Jetsam Hostel.

4. The Flotsam And Jetsam

If you’re wondering where to eat in La Union, you need to check out The Flotsam and Jetsam. 

Here they serve delicious food and laid-back vibes with direct access to Urbiztondo Beach. 

This hostel features an instagrammable restaurant and bar that is open to everyone. The restaurant is filled with beanbags, colorful lanterns, laughter, and music. It’s a great place to take aesthetic photos and take a break from the sun.

5. Instagrammable Places In La Union – Immuki Island

About 30 minutes from San Juan is the picturesque island also known as Immuki Island. 

This small island is actually a collection of coral gardens and lagoons and is located off the shore of Paraoir in Balaoan town.

If you’re not into surfing, this is the ideal place for new adventures and thrilling activities!

Because this is off the coast of Paraoir, you can walk to the shore of Immuki Island during low tide. 

And during high tide, you can either swim across, since the water is only 5 feet deep or ride a balsa. 

The island is only a few meters away from the shore so it won’t be too much of a trek. 

At Immuki Island, you will have access to 3 turquoise lagoons with shimmering waters where you can go swimming, snorkeling, and even cliff diving! Please be aware these lagoons range from 8-10 feet deep, so swim at your own risk. 

Speaking of risk, I recommend using aqua shoes during your trip because there are sharp corals and rocks around the island, which is a great way to ruin your trip if you step on one. 

Note: I also suggest bringing your own food because there are no restaurants nearby. Fortunately, they have cottages and grills so you can have a picnic with your friends and family.

This is the best place to surf all day and bask in the sunset in the evening, both for beginners and experts. The community in San Juan Beach is very welcoming and radiates good vibes. Those who live here lead a very simple life. 

That’s just one of the many things that makes this one of the best places in La Union to disconnect and enjoy the waves.

8. Lotus Valley Farm 

While the Lotus Valley Farm is called a farm, it’s actually more of an isolated paradise. 

The Lotus Valley Farm was once just hectares of land but the owners Toby and Marissa Tamayo saw a blank canvas and went straight to work. 

The Tamayos transformed this land into bamboo huts, where you can stay overnight, surrounded by 20,000+ trees, a lotus flower plant garden, endless medicinal edible plants, and a stream that supplies water throughout the area. 

It’s a paradise tucked away in the mountainous parts of La Union where you can enjoy peace, nature, and connection. 

Cell phone signals are not the best here, so to get the best photos I recommend bringing a disposable camera.

9. CURMA center 

If you have some spare time on your vacation and want to be a part of a great cause then check out the CURMA Hatchery. 

CURMA (Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions) is a conservation program that protects sea turtles from poachers and other predators along the shore of San Juan. 

You will have the opportunity to volunteer by patrolling the coastline and securing sea turtles’ nests through activities such as Beach Patrol, Pawikan Release, Coastal Clean-up, and Hatchery Management.

10. Ili Norte, San Juan

If you decide to volunteer for the CURMA center, or you’re just in the area, check out this beautiful wall art near the office of Project CURMA.

In the vacant parking lot, you should find an abandoned structure with stunning detailed graffiti. This is the perfect way to add pops of color to your La Union Instagram pictures. 

You will definitely want to add this to your La Union tourist spots list if art is your thing!

11. Instagrammable Places In La Union – Taboc Baywalk

Taboc Baywalk is the best surfing beach in La Union if you’re not great at surfing, yet. This is where surf instructors take beginners since Urbiztondo Beach can sometimes be a little too hectic for newbies. 

The sunsets here are spectacular so you will want to capture photos once you’re done surfing. It’s also not too far from Urbiztondo Beach, so if you have some extra time on your hands take a walk to Taboc Baywalk!

12. Ma-Cho Temple

A popular tourist spot in San Fernando La Union is the Ma-Cho Temple. 

The Ma-Cho Temple is open to everyone no matter their religion and is often a place many come to worship, pray, and meditate. 

This landmark is known for being the first Taoist temple in the Philippines and having some of the best views in La Union as it sits 70 feet above sea level!

The location of the temple offers amazing panoramic views of the San Fernando Harbor and the China Sea, but that’s not the only photo-worthy thing about this place. 

It’s also decorated with beautiful stone, wooden carvings, traditional Taoist decor, and their famous Spider Dome, so you will have plenty of opportunities to get that perfect shot for the gram!

13. Instagrammable Places In La Union – Pindangan Ruins 

Pindangan Ruins was once the first Catholic church of San Fernando built in 1764. That was until an earthquake in 1892 ruined the church causing it to collapse. 

Today, the Carmelite Sisters are maintaining and preserving the ruins. There isn’t much to see at this beautiful landmark other than the ruins surrounded by vegetation and flowers, so it can easily be squeezed into your itinerary. 

Located around the Ma-Cho Temple, the Pindangan Ruins are an ideal place to take Instagram-worthy pictures on your way or heading back from the Temple. 

Note: Please don’t lean or climb on the walls for the preservation of the ruins and your safety.

This overlooked spot in San Fernando La Union region is the perfect place to get beach pictures without a bunch of people in your shot. 

The reason why it’s called Jesus Point in Carille is because there is a statue of Jesus Christ right next to the shore. For an iconic shot to add to your thread, go later in the evening and you can snap a shot of the sun setting behind the statue of Jesus Christ!

15. Thunderbird Poro Point Resort

If you’ve always admired Santorini Greece then you need to visit the Thunderbird Poro Point Resort in La Union Philippines. 

Located in Poro Point Peninsula, Thunderbird Poro Point features luxurious villas, wellness centers, restaurants, and a 9-hole golf course. 

This beautiful resort is open to the public for a small entrance fee of 300 PHP ($5.42 USD), where you will have access to some of the best restaurants and photo spots, including the famous Santorini dome. 

Note: Try visiting later in the afternoon because if you go around midday the sun will make the white surroundings almost blinding, defeating the purpose of getting instagrammable pictures.

18. Occalong Falls 

Occalong Falls is a beautiful waterfall that resides in the town of La Luna.

The falls are surrounded by a beautiful landscape and give you a chance to relax in the cool waters on a hot day. If you love nature, there will be plenty of opportunities to capture Instagram-worthy photos!

It is a low waterfall but not many tourists come this way, so you don’t have to worry about it being overcrowded. The earlier you go the more likely you will have the falls to yourself.

If you visit the Luna Pebble Beach after a storm you will find colorful pebbles that have washed up on the shore. No one actually knows why this phenomenon happens, but many still come here to appreciate its beauty. 

And locals gather these beautiful stones to sell them, so you will also get a free souvenir when you visit!

Another great tourist spot in La Union is The Baluarte Watch Tower, also known as the Luna Tower. 

The Baluarte Watch Tower is 400 years old and 1 of 5 watch towers in La Union. It’s right next to Luna Pebble Beach, so this is another amazing spot to take pictures both inside and outside the tower.

There is also a delicious restaurant next to The Baluarte Watch Tower, so when you’re ready to eat check out the Lola Mending’s Cafe. One of the most trendy things they serve is the Baluarte Supreme churros, which are in the shape of a watchtower!

21. Paraoir Man Made Forest

For an enchanting picture in a green oasis, Paraoir Man Made Forest is the perfect spot for you. 

The gorgeous tunnel of trees covers a large portion of Bacnotan Luna Balaoan Road, so if you’re coming from San Fernando, Immuki Island, or San Juan you won’t miss it. 

Most people park on the side of the road to take a quick picture. Please be aware that this is a main road, so you have to be careful that you’re not obstructing traffic when parked on the side of the road and taking pictures. 

If you’re lucky, you can get a picture-perfect shot in one of the best natural attractions in La Union without any traffic!

22. Instagrammable Places In La Union – Bato De Luna

Bato de Luna is one of the best places to visit in La Union and one of several popular art galleries in Nalvo Norte, Luna, La Union. 

One of the most notable structures is the massive statue of a turtle made of pebbles and stones. Some other popular attractions are the painted ceiling and optical illusion floor painting. 

Bato de Luna also has walls filled with artwork, naughty stone figures, and IG-worthy photo spots, as well as a souvenir shop and restaurant that serves breakfast. 

It’s right off the main road where Paraoir Man Made Forest is located so you can head this way once you’re done taking pictures in the tunnel of trees. 

Note: Bahay na Bato is another unique art gallery worth checking out that isn’t too far from Bato de Luna. If you make a turn on Barangay Road heading towards the art galleries, the first one you’ll see is Bato de Luna on your right.

Another place to check out in Luna, La Union is the Bahay Na Bato. This beautiful house was originally built for Dr. Edison and Dr. Purita Chan-Noble as a vacation home. 

It was entirely constructed with Korean stone and corals from the beach, so it makes for amazing instagrammable pictures. 

The Bahay Na Bato now serves as an art gallery that showcases various statues and Filipino artifacts. Similar to other instagrammable spots in Luna, the entire theme of the art gallery is based on stones and pebbles. 

Note: The best time to go is early in the morning or late in the afternoon because when it’s noon the sun can be unbearable.

If you’re visiting La Union between the months of March-May (Dry season), I highly recommend visiting a local grape farm. The Lomboy Farm is the largest grape farm in La Union and offers an amazing experience of picking fresh crunchy grapes!

This 500-meter tunnel is over 100 years old and was originally intended for trains of the Philippine National Railways but was later used as a headquarters for the Japanese Imperial Army during the Japanese Occupation.

1. Kinkaku-ji Temple 金閣寺

No trip to Kyoto is complete without a visit to Kinkaku-ji Temple, the Golden Pavilion. As its name suggests, this World Heritage Site is covered in gold.

It is set by a classic Japanese garden, against a reflective pond that frames its opulent design. Do arrive as soon as it opens on a weekday, to get that unobstructed selfie!

2. Shimogamo Jinja Shrine 下鴨神社

Shimogamo Jinja Shrine is one of Japan’s oldest shrines. It is tucked within a sacred forest – the Tadasu no Mori that has been largely untouched for centuries. 

It is the quintessential Shinto shrine, with its bright white and vermilion red colors, distinctive two-storied entrance gate, and classic torii gate. The striking contrast of colors against lush greenery and blue skies will make your Instagram shot stand out.

Look out for the vermilion bridge over the Mitarashi River and strike a pose there!

To enjoy uninterrupted photography for the gram, visit as early as you can or before twilight when it is much quieter.

Fushimi Sake District is such a hidden gem! It is a historical sake-brewing neighborhood with a distinctive old-school charm, dotted with around 40 well-preserved nihonshu sake breweries. 

Go for the jikkokubune wooden boat cruise that brings you along the district’s river. The picturesque journey takes about 1 hour, running in the daytime from April to late November at JPY1200 (USD8.50).

From Fushimi Inari Shrine, take the Keihan Main train line from Fushimi Inari Station to Chushojima Station (16 minutes, JPY210 (USD1.50)) 

From Kyoto Station, board the Kintetsu-Kyoto train line to Kintetsu-Tambabashi Station then take a short walk to Tambabashi Station. There, take the Keihan Main train line to Chushojima Station (20 minutes, JPY550 (USD4)).

From Chushojima Station, walk about 5-10 minutes.

Eastern Kyoto (Higashiyama)

6. Philosopher’s Path 哲学の道

Start your walking tour here on the most beautiful street in the world. This photogenic path is lined with hundreds of sakura trees along a canal, making it an adored Instagrammable spot during the cherry blossom season.

In the summer, you may spot glowing fireflies in the evening as the day cools down. Even hydrangeas bloom along this pleasant path during the rainy season.

The 1-mile path is lined with quaint cafes and boutiques. Ao Onigiri is one of such charming eateries, known for its handmade rice balls.

Access To Philosopher’s Path 

From Kyoto Station, take the Karasuma train line to Marutamachi Station. 

Then, exit and walk shortly to Karasuma Marutamachi bus stop where you take Kyoto City Bus numbers 93 or 204 to the Kinrinshako-mae bus stop (30 minutes, JPY490 (USD3.50)). From there, walk for about 5 minutes. 

7. Okazaki Jinja Shrine 岡崎神社

An Insta-worthy spot off the beaten path is Okazaki Jinja Shrine, also known as Usagi Jinja (Rabbit Shrine) among locals. It is possibly the cutest shrine in Kyoto! 

The shrine grounds are awash with scores of bunny sculptures, images, and figurines. Let’s see if you can spot all of them for Instagram! Its omamori charms and omikuji fortune slips are also popular for their adorable bunny designs. 

Okazaki Jinja Shrine

8. Gion District 祇園

Gion is Kyoto’s center of traditional arts and entertainment, preserving its atmospheric charms well into the modern world. Exploring on foot is the best to soak in its old-world vibes that whisk you to another era.

Just stroll the cobbled streets and discover its many Instagrammable corners on your own. It’s appealing both in daylight and at night. The latter is recommended for a chance encounter with geishas, along Hanami-koji Street. 

Access To Gion District 

From Okazaki-jinja Shrine, take a 30-minute walk and stop by Chion-in Temple or Maruyama Park ( cherry blossom spot!) along the way.

From Kyoto Station, take Kyoto City bus numbers 86 or 206 which stops directly in Gion (25 minutes, JPY230 (USD2)).

9. Yasaka Pagoda 八坂の塔

Soaring tall in Eastern Kyoto, Yasaka Pagoda is another iconic landmark you cannot miss as one of the most Instagrammable places in Kyoto. 

It is part of Hokan-ji Temple that has mostly been destroyed by earthquakes, fires, and wars over the centuries. Today, it stands alone in the photogenic Yasaka Street. 

The best place to snap aesthetic shots is in the middle of Yasaka Street at dusk when it’s framed by the setting sun, wooden houses, and glowing lanterns.

10. Yasaka Koshindo Temple 八坂庚申堂

Yasaka Koshindo Temple is said to be the most colorful and Instagrammable temple in Kyoto, which makes this hidden gem a must-visit for a pop of color on your social feed. 

It has only recently gained popularity in mainstream media. 

Hanging garlands of vibrant kukurizaru balls are the main features. These “balls” are monkey talismans bound at their hands and feet, to symbolize concentration. Locals like to take selfies here in their yukata or kimono; rent one if you’d like to do the same!

11. Ninenzaka 二年坂 & Sannenzaka 三年坂

Savor the atmosphere of old Kyoto on the gentle slopes of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. 

These scenic pedestrian-only streets are lined with artisanal stores, old restaurants, machiya townhouses, and private homes preserved in their wooden front. 

There aren’t any overhead power lines here, in keeping with the classical ambiance. Even the Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya Starbucks is designed into a 100-year-old house, with tatami seats that make it a great Instagrammable spot!

12. Kiyomizu-dera Temple 清水寺

A celebrated World Heritage Site, Kiyomizu-dera Temple is one of the most famous locations in Japan. Its majestic wooden terrace protruding from the main hall, on a lush hillside, offers a panoramic view of Kyoto!

It holds many interesting highlights, but what makes this temple one of the most Instagrammable places in Kyoto is its stunning views during fall and spring.

In fall, a display of blazing maple leaves surrounds the temple’s grand structures. In spring, more than 1,500 sakura cherry blossom trees bloom in a surreal pink wonderland that will take your breath away.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The end of Sannenzaka is the lively Matsubara-dori shopping street that takes you to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in 5-10 minutes on foot.   

From Kyoto Station, board Kyoto City bus number 206 to Gojo-zaka or Kiyomizu-michi bus stop (20 minutes, JPY230 (USD2)). From there, walk uphill for about 10 minutes.

13. Kamo River 鴨川

The Kamo River is an idyllic oasis that stretches along Kyoto city.

The riverbanks are spotted with visitors and locals taking quiet strolls, enjoying picnics, dining at terraces overlooking the river, and photographing for Instagram.

It is romantic when the sun sets, as the river reflects soft glows of lanterns and streetlights. A great photo spot is where stepping stones are lined across the river. Stand on one and have a shot taken with you right in the middle of Kamo River!

From Kiyomizu-dera Temple, just walk for 20-minutes. Once arrived, stroll along the river upwards towards the north, as that stretch is lovely.

Alternatively from Kyoto Station, walk 10 minutes toward the east. 

Western Kyoto (Arashiyama)

14. Arashiyama Bamboo Forest 嵐山竹林

One of the most photographed spots in Japan is the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. 

It is also known as the Sagano Bamboo Grove. Here, paved walkways are shadowed by rustling bamboo trees, emerald green in any season. Truly an Instagrammable destination like nowhere else!

A cheeky tip to avoid crowds:

Enter Arashiyama Bamboo Grove through Tenryu-ji Temple’s north exit. From there, head left and enjoy relatively quiet paths. It costs JPY500 (USD3.50) to enter Tenryu-ji Temple; worth it to skip crowds and you get to see a World Heritage Site!

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

15. Togetsukyo Bridge 渡月橋

A stone’s throw away from the Bamboo Forest is the Togetsukyo Bridge, Arashiyama’s most recognizable landmark that you shouldn’t miss.

This historic wooden bridge crosses the Katsura River in front of rolling mountains. It is one of the most Instagrammable places in Kyoto, against an unobstructed backdrop of crimson fall foliage or springtime sakura blossoms.

Take a break at the stylish % ARABICA nearby. This artisanal coffee shop with a minimalist aesthetic overlooks Togetsukyo Bridge and its scenic surroundings.

Arashiyama’s Kimono Forest is a permanent art installation celebrating the rich culture and colors of the Japanese kimono. It is made up of about 600 pillars displaying a mix of traditionally-dyed kimono fabric patterns.

I stumbled on Kimono Forest by chance within the Randen Arashiyama Train Station and recommend this underrated Instagrammable spot! This “forest” is illuminated daily after dark, drawing you into its magical, immersive world.

17. Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple 愛宕念仏寺

While there are over 2,000 shrines and temples in Kyoto, none are as unique as this hidden gem. Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple greets adventurous visitors with 1,200 carved stone statues in many whimsical facial expressions. 

Some smile, some laugh, and some hold little curiosities. These moss-covered statues lend such a curious atmosphere to this secluded temple.

18. Kifune Jinja Shrine 貴船神社

Also referred to as Kifune Shrine, this charming shrine is nestled in Kibune town within Kyoto’s northern mountains. 

The most Instagrammable spot here is its otherworldly stone stairway leading to the shrine’s entrance, lined with vermilion Kasuga lanterns. Surely you’ve seen photographs of this enchanting stairway blanketed in snow!

Winter is one of the best times to visit, though it offers beautiful scenery too in warmer seasons like spring and summer. From May to September, you can experience Kibune town’s famous kawadoko dining concept on seated platforms that “float” over rivers.

Kifune Jinja Shrine

This journey takes about an hour and costs JPY740 (USD5.50).

From there, walk for about 5 minutes. 

19. Shoju-in Temple 正寿院

Shoju-in Temple is hidden in Kyoto’s tea-growing region of Uji, specifically Ujitawara town. Lately, this shrine has hit social media with the cutest, Instagrammable heart-shaped “Window of “Happiness” that opens up to a garden.

It displays a different view each season, from deep green in the summer to snowy white in the winter. On a sunny day, visit in the mid-afternoon between 3.00pm to 4.00pm to catch sight of a heart-shaped sunbeam on the floor, shining through the window.

Shoju-in Temple

Alternatively, for a fuss-free journey grab a taxi from Uji Station to Shoju-in Temple, which takes 30 minutes and costs approximately JPY5000 (USD35)

20. Daigo-ji Temple 醍醐寺

Daigo-ji Temple is a World Heritage Site set on a pleasant hillside. The temple’s classic Japanese ambiance puts it on this list of most Instagrammable places in Kyoto.

Capture magnificent views at its elegant Sanboin building, followed by the Benten-do hall. Set on a small island surrounded by a tranquil lake, Benten-do hall is framed by the mountain’s ginkgo and maple trees, especially exquisite in fall.

If there’s any place that makes me feel like I’m Alice in Wonderland, this is it! With a whimsical design that resembles a giant Banyan tree, the architecture of Crazy House is nothing short of a masterpiece. 

Inspired by Antoni Gaudí, the architect Nga manifested her wildest imagination with sculpted elements of nature. Get your poses ready for photos while you’re here! Don’t miss this bizarrely fascinating spot as one of the top 5 places in Vietnam!

You can even book a stay at this unique landmark for a night or two to enjoy the expressionist architecture to the fullest. Each of the rooms here have different themes based on animals, it’ll be a stay to remember for sure!

2. Ban Gioc-Detian Falls, Cao Bang

Far off the beaten track, witnessing this magical waterfall in all its glory made my 8-hour-long journey all worthwhile. 360 km from Hanoi, the Ban Gioc-Detian Falls sits between the border of Vietnam and China while feeding into the Quay Son River.

With its 53-meter height and 300-meter span, it is certainly the most beautiful place in Vietnam in my books. To get a closer look at the falls, I even rented a raft at $2 per pax for a 10-minute boat ride to capture the mighty falls.

Pro tip: The best time for photos at the waterfall is during lunchtime when the dam upstream opens to allow the full flow of water, making the scenery even more impressive. Make sure you have your camera ready when the time comes!

Now, go forth and embark on an adventure of chasing waterfalls for an extraordinary experience.

3. Red & White Sand Dunes, Mui Ne

My first taste of the desert was at Mui Ne, a quiet little fishing town 200 km north of Ho Chi Minh City. It has become a popular destination thanks to the vast and pristine sand dunes that overlook Vietnam’s Southern coast. 

For the best experience, I’d recommend going on a sunrise trip to the sand dunes. The thrilling Jeep adventure was just as unforgettable as the breathtaking sunset upon arriving. 

To take your Instagram game to the next level, you can even splurge a little more on a hot air balloon tour. The scenery of the sand dunes from up there is out of this world, guaranteed to get a lot of likes and following for your photos.

Pro tip: Go on a real adventure and explore this charming spot with a rented motorbike. It will only cost you as little as $6 per day. 

4. Imperial City of Hue

A historical symbol of the Nguyen Dynasty, it is one of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Vietnam. This charming ancient palace is definitely at the top of my list of Instagrammable places in Vietnam.

There were once lavish palaces inside the Citadel walls, complete with manicured gardens and ornate pagodas. But they have since suffered much damage during the war. Nonetheless, it still took my breath away admiring a piece of history that stood against time.

Walking around exploring the citadel can get quite warm in the Vietnamese heat, so make sure you slather on adequate sunscreen and hydrate frequently!

Pro tip: On Thursdays, the Imperial City of Hue opens at 8:00am and closes at 10:00pm, allowing visitors to experience it in a whole new way by nightfall. Plan your trip ahead if you wish to check out this spot at night!

5. Pongour Waterfall, Da Lat

Hunting for Vietnam Instagram spots with a wow factor? Give this majestic waterfall a visit! Dubbed as ‘the greatest waterfall of the south’, the Pongour Waterfall is located 50km away from Da Lat City. 

The cascading falls form a fascinating landscape that left me mesmerized. The water stream gushes over 7 separated levels of rock, providing a strong visual experience like no other, which also means you’ll be able to get plenty of stunning shots here!

Pro tip: The rainy season from mid-April to the end of September provides ample amounts of rainwater. Come during this season to enjoy an even more spectacular view of the falls. 

6. Sapa Town, Lao Cai

As one of the most Instagrammable places in Vietnam, there is no other spot like Sapa Town. Deep in the valley of lusciously green paddy fields with a mountainous backdrop, your time here will stay with you long after your trip ends.

The rustic views, laid-back vibes and friendly locals made my short trip here more enjoyable that I could ever imagine. The cool local weather all year round is certainly a relaxing treat for someone like me who prefers the cold.

Pro tip: Book yourself a stay at one of the mountaintop lodges like Topas Ecolodge to wake up to the best views every morning. Time to get yourself a cuppa as you pose for pictures with the stunning scenery!

7. Benh Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City

A bustling market is the quintessential Asian experience, and you’ve never been to Ho Chi Minh City if you haven’t visited this iconic wet market. 

It is the oldest surviving market that dates back as early as the 17th century, making it a must-see spot in this dynamic city. I shopped for all my souvenirs here as it sells everything from basic necessities, souvenirs, food to clothing at a bargainable price.

Pro tip: Give your Instagram feed a pop of color when you snap cool shots of the fruit stalls with fresh produce stacked neatly in heaps.

8. Mua Cave, Ninh Binh

A popular choice for travelers in Ninh Binh, the locals describe this spot as ‘Ha Long Bay on land’, as it offers similar picturesque views of the limestone cliffs while being on land.

I hope you didn’t skip cardio because the 500 steps at Mua Cave Viewpoint is not for the faint-hearted. But you’ll be rewarded with the most enchanting view at the top, a perfect spot for selfies!

While you’re here, set yourself up at Mua Caves Ecolodge because I’m convinced there’s no better place to stay while you’re in Ninh Binh!

Pro tip:

 A special time to visit this location is in May or June when the paddy fields turn golden yellow during harvest season. Just imagine how glorious the landscape would look then!

9. Domaine de Marie Church, Da Lat

With a peachy-pink exterior, this church that sits on a hill in Da Lat has a feminine charm about it. The building is a harmonious fusion of French and Vietnamese architecture, designed as an isosceles triangle with small arched windows.

From the grounds of the church, I discovered that you could also catch a glimpse of a romantic view overlooking the city. It’s definitely one of my favorite spots for photos in Da Lat, partly thanks to the hill the church is located on. 

10. Mooc Springs, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

As one of the best Instagrammable places in Vietnam, this enchanting eco-trail needs no introduction. 

The sound of bird chirping and spring water flowing through the rocks at Mooc Springs was like music to my ears. I will never forget how clear and blue the spring water was, it was mesmerizing to watch it flow gracefully down the stream.

Enjoy the fresh air amidst the flora and fauna, as you kick back and relax while immersing yourself into the beauty of nature here at Mooc Springs. 

Looking for a place to stay? Phong Nha Farmstay is absolutely it! Soaking in their outdoor pool while watching the sunset over some cocktails is the best experience ever.

11. Hoi An Ancient Town

Update your Instagram feed with refreshing photos of the living museum that is Hoi An Ancient Town. It served as a trading port back in the 17th century, complete with a well-preserved building complex and water canals for easy transportation of goods.

What really captivated me was the oriental grace embodied by this far eastern port. It is a cultural melting pot of Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese merchants that settled around the port once upon a time.

As for the best photo spot in town, the Japanese Covered Bridge definitely takes the cake! Be sure to get a photo of yourself with the Japanese Covered Bridge that is featured on the nation’s 20,000 Vietnamese Dong banknote.

Pro tip: Go the extra mile for the ‘gram and rent an Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese costume) as you explore the town taking photos. It’s a surefire way to create more magical memories.

12. Heaven’s Gate, Sapa

If you want to enjoy a moment of bliss amongst the clouds, this is the place to be! Come embrace the majestic view of the Fansipan mountain at the highest pass in Vietnam for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. 

The scenery changes with each season, you’ll be able to enjoy views of beautifully blooming cherry blossoms and golden yellow paddy fields during different months of the year. You might even catch a super rare glimpse of snow during the colder months!

13. Ly Son Island

This lesser-known gem off the south central coast is surely one of the most amazing Instagrammable places in Vietnam. The island is enriched with pristine coastlines and untamed wilderness, making it a great destination for adventure-seekers.

Thanks to the dormant volcanoes in the area plus the local dishes that are served with ample of garlic, it is dubbed the ‘kingdom of garlic and volcanoes’, which I found rather amusing. 

The weather at this beachy location also stays warm all year around, so it’s time to get that tan on while you’re here!

Pro tip: Go on an island adventure as you hunt for cool photo spots by renting a motorbike for only $6.50 per day!

14. Saigon Central Post Office, Ho Chi Minh City

This next spot is a real treat for fans of architecture, you wouldn’t want to miss this 131-year-old building in the heart of the city!

The Saigon Central Post Office has a huge clock placed prominently at the top of the main entrance. It boasts pastel yellow exterior with white trims and dark green shutters at the windows.

As I walked into the building, the stunning interior got me even more awe-struck. The colonial architecture was a beautiful mix of Gothic and Renaissance style. Take your time to take it all in with your eyes before you snap away on your camera.

Pro tip: Send a postcard home from this historical post office to make it extra meaningful!

15. Golden Bridge, Da Nang

Looks familiar? This is the tourist hotspot you’ve been seeing all over Instagram the past few years! It’s been the buzz online ever since its initial opening back in June 2018.

At the height of 1,400 meters above sea level, the Golden Bridge is a 150-meter-long pedestrian bridge in the Ba Na Hills Resort that overlooks the lush green terrains of Da Nang.

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing the brilliant sunset during my visit in the late afternoon. I highly recommend you do the same to catch a glimpse of the view you’ll never be able to see anywhere else.

However, it can get quite crowded during those particular hours, so brace yourself for the crowd!

16. Bai Tu Long Bay

Sharing similar geological features of stiff limestone cliffs lined with lush greenery, Bai Tu Long Bay is a more secluded area 7.6 km away from Ha Long Bay. 

I first visited Bai Tu Long Bay in the summer on a 3-day cruise and I can honestly say it’s the best money I’ve spent during my time in Vietnam. Being on the cruise lets you bask in the scenic views while enjoying the sea breeze all day, every day, until the end of your trip.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap breathtaking photos throughout your cruise. However, the phone signal in that area is non-existent, so you’ll have to wait until you get off the cruise to post your enviable photos online.

17. Long Beach, Cam Ranh 

Get your bikini’s and sunscreen, ‘cause we’re going to the beach! The perfect beach vacay you’ve been waiting for is right here in Long Beach, Cam Ranh.

The 10-kilometer stretch of sandy white shore at Long Beach promises an absolutely stunning panorama, so feast your eyes and be sure to take lots of photos while you’re sunbathing to the sounds of the crashing waves.

1. Petronas Twin Towers

Standing at a height of 451.9 meters, Petronas Twin Towers is undoubtedly one of the most instagrammable places in KL.

The 88-storey identical twin skyscrapers are home to Petronas offices and a number of other companies while Suria KLCC, one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia, and the Petronas Philharmonic Hall sits at its base.

The iconic landmark also consists of an Observation Deck on the 86th floor and a Skybridge on levels 41 and 42.

Capture your perfect Petronas Twin Towers shot in front of the fountain area, across the street or from the KLCC Park.

How do you get there?

BY CAR: You can reach Petronas Twin Towers via Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Kia Peng. Be sure to search “PETRONAS Twin Towers” on navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps.

Alternatively, take a metered taxi or book a ride through the e-hailing app, Grab.

BY BUS: Hop on the (Free!) GOKL City Bus and head to Petronas Twin Towers via the Green Line or Purple Line. You can also ride on RapidKL City Buses B103 and B114.

BY TRAIN: Stop at KLCC Station via LRT Kelana Jaya Line.

When is the best time to go?

Any day where the skies are clear.

SECRET TIP! Visit during a special holiday such as Merdeka AKA Malaysia’s Independence Day. Just like the image above, you would get to see the towers lighted up in different hues instead of the usual white light.

It is free to roam on the grounds. However, guided tours to the Observation Deck and Skybridge are priced at RM28 (USD6.2) and RM80 (USD17.8) for MyKad and Non-MyKad adult holders respectively. Want to skip the queue? This package is for you.

2. Batu Caves

Next on my list of instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur is none other than Batu Caves. 

Batu Caves, a Hindu shrine, remains the focal point of Thaipusam festivities in Malaysia. It features 272 rainbow-painted steps amidst the backdrop of a limestone hill while the entrance boasts a 43-meter-high statue of the Hindu deity, Lord Murugan.

Attracting 5000 visitors daily (worshippers and tourists alike), it is no doubt Batu Caves is a magnificent sight to behold! A great photo for your feed can be taken at the foot of the hill.

At the top of the hill, you’ll be met by a humongous arched cave ceiling with openings (as seen above) that allow natural light to stream through. Perfect for an unconventional, yet beautiful photo opt.

How do you get there?

BY CAR: Batu Caves can be easily reached in 15 to 20 minutes via car from KL Sentral.

BY TRAIN: Take a direct KTM Train from KL Sentral. The total journey to Batu Caves KTM Komuter Station is approximately 40 minutes.

When is the best time to go?

Batu Caves is open daily from 7AM to 9PM. I would suggest getting there as early as possible to avoid the crowds.

SECRET TIP! Store loose items properly and refrain from having any snacks on your person as monkeys love to hang around on the steps and bully visitors.

3. Wilayah Mosque

A visit to Kuala Lumpur is incomplete without making a stop at Wilayah Mosque AKA the Federal Territory Mosque.

Dubbed as the “Jewel of Kuala Lumpur”, Wilayah Mosque takes inspiration from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and incorporates unique Ottoman and Malay architectural designs.

Additionally, daily tours are provided by the Masjid Tour Program–great for those who are history buffs and curious about the religion of Islam.

According to Tourism Malaysia, it is the most photographed mosque in Kuala Lumpur. If that doesn’t scream instagrammable, then I don’t know what does!

How do you get there?

BY CAR: You can reach Wilayah Mosque in just 10 minutes from KL Sentral.

The Saloma Link Bridge is a pedestrian bridge joining the districts of Kampung Baru and Kuala Lumpur City Center. The steel and glass structure is certainly one of the most instagrammable places in KL.

• When visiting the mosque, remember to dress conservatively ensuring your head, legs and shoulders are covered (attire for rent is available at the entrance).

3. Chandni Chowk 

Chandni Chowk is the definition of organized chaos. You’ve got to visit this place at least once. It may leave you exhausted at the end but the experience is like no other. This is one of instagrammable places in Delhi you will want to get all your street photography shots. 

Tips:

• Stop for a sweet snack at Old Famous Jalebi Wala. This is a must for me every time I find myself at Chandni Chowk. If I were you, I would get 1 kg of Jalebi to start with! 
• Follow the smell of fresh parantha (Indian flatbread) and you will find yourself at Paranthe WalI Gali, a street filled with a series of stalls that sell varieties of paranthas.

Its creation back in the day served an essential purpose in providing water during seasonal fluctuations. Every time I visit a baoli I am amazed by the architectural design and craftsmanship of something with such a functional purpose.

Did you know that several Bollywood movies had scenes that were shot here? No wonder this attraction is known to be one of the best places for photoshoots and make it one of the famous instagrammable places in Delhi.

• Visit the langar (community kitchen) for a simple yet tasty vegetarian meal. The food served is prepared by volunteers and is served to anyone who wants a meal for free.

Delhi Metro

The Delhi Metro is the quickest and most affordable way to travel around the city. It currently consists of 12 lines (including the airport express line) serving 286 stations over a total length of 391 km. 

The metro service operates from 6.00 am to 11.00 pm daily. Metro users can either purchase tokens or use a smart card for traveling.

Ride-Hailing

You’ve got Uber and Ola operating in Delhi. Be sure to download the mobile apps and you will be able to book rides seamlessly with transparent fare pricing and drivers’ reviews made available. 

Rickshaw

A trip to India is not complete without having taken an auto-rickshaw ride. I remember my first time in India, all excited to hail one by screaming out AUTO and hopping into this speedy three-wheeler with a big smile plastered on my face. 

The auto-rickshaw is your best affordable option when traveling short distances and when you need to zig-zag through traffic (which is a constant in Delhi). 

Most auto-rickshaw drivers do not use their meter and will probably quote you an inflated rate so be sure to negotiate before getting in. 

Not sure what your fare should be? Get this, Google Maps now has an option that provides route and fare information for auto-rickshaws. Find out how you will never have to overpay for an auto-rickshaw ride ever again. 

In Old Delhi where most of the lanes are notoriously narrow, traveling on a cycle rickshaw makes more sense especially if your destination is too far to travel on foot but at the same time too near for an auto-rickshaw ride. 

Car Rental

Feeling gutsy and thinking you’ve got the skills to take on Indian roads and drivers? You can try booking a self-drive car from Avis or MyChoize. Prefer being chauffeured around instead? – check out Savaari.

Car rentals would be a good option if you’ve included destinations like Agra and Rajasthan in your itinerary and would like to travel comfortably.

Traveler Tips

I have also set out some important tips to take note of. Let me get into it briefly with some basic traveler tips when in India:

Avoid Burnout 

You will be tempted to squeeze in as much as you can to make the most of your trip, – don’t make this mistake. Instead, in a day, plan to check out about three places that are relatively nearby to avoid spending too much time traveling. 

Take it easy as Delhi may overwhelm your senses. Its constant traffic + honking, humid weather, and lack of personal space take getting used to so give yourself some time to adjust. 

My first days are usually spent transitioning my mindset to that of a Dilliwala. 

Learn The Art of Haggling

Unfortunately as a tourist, you will be quoted a higher price as many sellers assume that tourists are rich. Always do your research to know the usual rate; if not sure, you can always ask a local. 

Etiquette 

As many of the attractions on your list would include temples, it will be important to remember to remove your shoes before entering them. Also, practice the same when invited into someone’s home. 

You will also notice that the majority of locals tend not to use cutlery and use their right hand to eat (eating with your left hand is considered unpleasant). 

Anytime in doubt of local customs, observe others and imitate and remember “when in Rome do as the Romans do”. 

Preventing Delhi Belly

On the multiple times that I’ve been to India, I have been careful with what I consume (not to the level of being overly paranoid though) and have been able to avoid the dreaded Delhi Belly. 

If you are keen to try street food (let’s be real, Indian street food is a major attraction) try to avoid anything with ice or uncooked food and try to choose vegetarian options over meat. 

Also, always consume only bottled water no matter the location (tap water is a BIG NO NO!).

Should you be too hesitant to try street food from roadside vendors, you can always look out for a Haldiram outlet (this is my go-to). They’ve got you covered with a variety of famous street food prepared in a proper restaurant setting.

Appropriate Dressing and Behavior

A lot of the younger generation tends to wear Western-style clothing over traditional apparel daily. However one should try to pack more modest style clothing (think maxi dresses, lightweight cotton bottoms, and loose tops) to deter any unwanted attention. 

When visiting houses of worship, be sure to wear clothing that covers your legs, navel, shoulders, and mid-arms. It would also be wise to carry along a simple scarf that can be used to cover your head when necessary. 

This tip is for couples out there. You may want to avoid PDA (hugging, kissing, holding hands) in public as it is frowned upon. 

Scams

Con artists aren’t given the title artist for no reason. You will unfortunately be exposed to taxi scams, tour scams, fake ticketing counters, pickpockets, temple donation scams, gift scams, and fast-track admission scams. 

Always use common sense, ask questions, judge the situation and remember the logic that if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. 

Safety 

My take is that as a tourist, any foreign destination can be daunting. However, if you take certain safety precautions your trip does not have to be one where you’re on high alert all the time.

Here is how I ensure my safety when traveling in India; try not to go out late at night, avoid areas that are known to have high crime rates, and don’t trust strangers (this includes young kids and ladies too). 

Always keep a family member or a friend updated on your whereabouts daily (I usually send them my itinerary together with details of all the accommodations I will be living at). 

You will realize a lot of these are common safety precautions that some of us probably practice back in our own countries.

Photography Tips Before Getting Started

Now before jumping right into taking Insta-worthy pictures of the places I’ve compiled, it would be good to keep in mind these photography tips:

Photography Bans

Please pay heed to photography bans on the interior of certain houses of worship. It may be that photography in certain areas such as the main prayer area of temples and mosques is not allowed. 

Also, while it may be okay to take pictures of the idols in certain temples, I always find myself avoiding that completely out of respect. 

Photography Equipment

Sites under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) do not permit the use of a tripod. Please do not try to sneak one in past security as this is taken very seriously. 

The  (ASI) has also banned the use of selfie sticks specifically at its 46 site museums across India (fret not as photography is still allowed in all the museums without cost sans the use of a tripod/ monopod/ flash-light). 

Fees

Fees to look out for; entrance fee, photography fee, and videography fee. While several places charge a photography fee separate from entrance fees, said fee is usually quite minimal. 

If you’re planning on doing some video work, a separate permit is required (along with payment of a costlier fee). Do not take this lightly and try to video without a permit, you will be stopped.

Timing

While I have included the operating hours for each attraction (please pay attention to this before traveling to a location only to find it closed for the day), temples usually also have specific timing when prayers are conducted daily. 

For those of you who want to be a part of the experience, this is to be noted. 

Appropriate Behavior

Karol Bagh 

Situated in the northern part of Delhi, this place is super close to Old Delhi where attractions such as the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, and Yamuna Ghat are located. 

It’s situated between a metro and railway line which allows for easy intercity and interstate travel. A variety of affordable and comfortable accommodations can be found in this area. 

Connaught Place 

You can’t miss this on the map – rows of colonial-style buildings arranged in concentric circles around a central park. Connaught Place is located in central Delhi away from busy Old Delhi thus making it less congested.

You will notice a mix of locals and ex-pats around this area as there is quite a sizeable ex-pat community that lives in this area. 

Here you can find some of the best restaurants, cafes, shopping, hotels, nightclubs, and popular attractions such as Purana Qila, India gate, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, and Jantar Mantar. Accommodation in this area is more upscale. 

Hauz Khas 

Situated in the southern part of Delhi, this place is often referred to as the coolest place to stay. It is a residential area of South Delhi that is well managed and built-in in comparison to the chaotic Old Delhi up north. 

This area has an impressive cafe culture and lively nightlife that attracts partygoers. Tourist attractions such as the Lotus Temple and Qutub Minar are situated nearby. 

Delhi boasts an expansive metro system that is reliable and easy to use so my suggestion would be to select an accommodation that is nearby to a metro station so that you can get around the city quickly and cheaply.
